DRUG INFORMATION
Vetmedin is used for the treatment of canine congestive heart failure. Vetmedin opens up the blood vessels taking blood away from the heart, so reducing the work the heart has to do to pump blood around your dog's body.
At the same time, Vetmedin opens up the blood vessels returning blood to the heart which reduces pressure on the heart.
Vetmedin also differs from other commonly used heart drugs by helping to the heart to pump more efficiently.
Vetmedin is available with a prescription in 1.25mg, 2.5mg and 5mg capsules.
DIRECTIONS
Vetmedin capsules should be given to your dog one hour before food, twice a day - ideally in the morning and at night (about 12 hours apart). If necessary a Vetmedin capsule can be hidden in a treat.
Since Vetmedin is fully compatible with other drugs used for treating heart failure your vet may choose to prescribe it alongside other drugs.
SIDE EFFECTS
Occasionally, dogs may experience vomiting but this is very rare. If this happens, please contact your vet who will advise you what to do.
